We are now at that point of the year when you have no idea what to wear in the morning because of the weather. In the day the sun is shining bright and towards the evening the breeze begins giving you chills. You don’t want to say good-bye to all those crop tops and high-waisted shorts that dominated your summer looks, but it’s time to cover up. Before you go to extremes of burning them or just putting them in the back of the closet, I’ll give you some ideas of using summer clothing pieces in the fall. Let me remind you I live in California, so these looks work out with the current weather because we don’t have to cover up from head to toe.
After the sets, I included my own thrifted outfit for fall. I transitioned a summer baby doll dress with a sunflower print to a fall appropriate outfit. Knits add a cozy look, so I’m wearing a mustard cardigan and some thigh-highs.
Halloween is around the corner, and deciding on the perfect costume is crucial. Since I can remember, I’ve dressed up almost ever year and only about five occasions were my costumes ‘store bought’. My mother and I had more fun coming up with ideas and searching for key pieces for costumes rather than bumping into cranky people or waiting in long lines at Halloween stores. One of my favorite costumes was a hand-me down sequins Little Mermaid outfit from my older cousin. This costume was special to me because it looked nothing like the traditional one. With this costume I even won second place in a costume contest during fourth grade. Yay me! In past years, I’ve also been a dead ballerina, a hippie and Lady Gaga.
To help you be a little creative and save some cash for this special holiday, I put together reviews of thrift stores you should hit up for your Halloween costumes or accessories.

I love Savers all year-long, and especially when it is Halloween season because this thrift store has great deals. This store stands out to me because they carry a variety of products. Here you can find second-hand costumes as well as new ones. The section that caught my eye right away was the wigs. They have different styles, colors and costume-oriented wigs to choose from, and the best part is they aren’t ridiculously priced. In addition to all the awesome accessories, Savers will have 50 percent off Halloween decor during the week before Halloween.

If you want to put together a unique costume, then Goodwill is your store. They have a designated section with donated costumes and accessories. A good portion of the costumes are lightly used since most people like to change their costumes every year. Past this section, Goodwills have a ton of clothing to search through for your costume ideas. Whether you want to be a scarecrow and need some overalls or a dead bride and need a wedding dress that you wouldn’t mind tearing up, the possibilities are endless.
Now I need your help. I’m torn between two of my favorite cartoon characters, which are Spinelli from the classic 90’s show Recess and more currently Lumpy Space Princess from Adventure Time. I can be shy at times and Spinelli would be my alter-ego. She is one tough girl that you do not mess with. Lumpy Space Princess (LSP) speaks her mind and is hilarious. She might not be the most graceful princess, but LSP has more girly interests.
For my costumes, I thrifted key pieces, bought new accessories and included my own belongs I already had.
Shopping at a thrift store can be pretty intimidating for beginners. There aren’t manikins dressed in the latest trends or size options for an item. Thrifting can be tiring but when you score a $4 top similar to one for $30 you were drooling for online, the satisfaction is magnificent. In the featured video, one of my favorite You-tuber provides important tips to find great pieces.

Bardot – $30
Here are some other tips to keep in mind:
-Browse the shoe section first (there are fewer shoes than clothing)
-Look for store’s sale dates (Savers 50 percent off sale on Memorial Day)
-Search all sizes (Oversized t-shirts and tops are trendy)
-Wear comfortable clothing (Try on all of your selections)
We often hear the phrase “fashion repeats itself”, but not many people think of this when they’re shopping. Most people are ready to revamp their closets with overpriced and sometimes poor quality clothing. If we hear this phrase so much, why did it just become oh-so-popular to own secondhand clothing? I’m not so sure, but Macklemore & Ryan Lewis did an awesome job explaining this trend with their song.
DeeLux is store I recently discovered while exploring the heart of Claremont, CA. At a glance, I thought it was a cute little boutique and window-shopping wouldn’t cause anybody any harm. I then found out I had hit the jackpot of a new thrift store. DeeLux is one of a few thrift stores that doesn’t accept donations, instead, you sell or trade your items for 35 percent of the original price in cash or 50 percent in-store credit. This way of thrifting is a little different because the employees pick out everything. Trusting that they have good fashion sense, hunting for a good find isn’t necessary.

The clothing, shoes and accessories selection ranges from brand new to vintage items for men and women. The new items are affordable, and dupes can also be found. For example, American Apparel’s basic hoodies are $48 while DeeLux has the same hoodies for $30. Another dupe you can find is the trendy jelly sandals. Band T-shirts can also be found here. A few that I browsed through were Joy Division, The Cramps, Misfits and The Strokes. In addition to clothing, DeeLux carries cool knickknacks and accessories. If you are looking for a stylish pair of sunglasses, this store is for you. Random items like room sprays and socks with bacon illustrations greet you at the door. This thrift store gains a ton of cool points because of its shoe collection. Here you can find a good pair of heels, sneakers, sandals or boots. Behind the counter they keep all of the popular name brands including Dr. Martens, T.U.K. and Jeffrey Campbell.

Overall DeeLux is a great shop that is aesthetically pleasing. For an avid thrifter who knows the effort of searching rack through rack for one good find, this thrift store saves you time since you find great items in no time. Almost every time I visit, I leave with a satisfying purchase. The only downsides are that the thrill of thrifting is lessened and, the brand new items can be a bit overpriced. Without those little bumps in the road, I totally recommend visiting one of the two locations.
